On November 26, Wang Fengchao, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, met with a delegation led by Dr Jacob Kam, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong MTR Corporation. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on further deepening cooperation, achieving win-win development, enhancing the overall efficiency of Chengdu's rail transit operations, and serving the citizens' green travel needs.
As a globally renowned rail transport operator, MTR Corporation is also an important partner in Chengdu's rail transit industry. Since 2018, the cooperation between the MTR and Chengdu Municipal has deepened continuously, particularly with the opening of the Chengdu-Hong Kong high-speed rail, which has greatly facilitated talent exchanges and economic trade between the two regions.
During the meeting, Wang Fengchao welcomed Dr Jacob and his delegation to Chengdu and briefly introduced the economic and social development of the city. He stated that currently, major strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the New Era of Western Development are converging in Chengdu, presenting limitless opportunities. Chengdu's rail transit industry is thriving, integrating research and education, surveying and design, engineering construction, operation and maintenance, and equipment manufacturing, demonstrating a clear advantage in the full industrial chain. The city highly values its cooperation with MTR Corporation and hopes that MTR will strengthen its confidence in developing in Chengdu, continue to expand its investments, increase its business presence, and play a leading role in bridging the cooperation between Chengdu and Hong Kong. This will attract more business partners to Chengdu, collaboratively creating a first-class rail transit industry ecosystem. Chengdu will continue to provide high-quality service support for MTR Corporation, aiding its long-term development in the city.。
Dr Jacob expressed gratitude for Chengdu's strong support of MTR Corporation's development in the city over the years. He stated that Chengdu is a vibrant city and expressed the hope of continuing to expand its rail transit business there. He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in areas such as rail transit technological innovation and talent development, using the establishment of the MTR regional headquarters as an opportunity to further deepen practical collaboration and continuously expand the station commercial business for railway opeations in domestic cities.
