Czechia secures EUR 304.5 million in CEF grantsJuly 11, 2025Czech rail projects have secured CZK 7.5 billion (EUR 304.5 million) from thelatest major call of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)for the 20212027. Správa železnic will use the European funding for the modernisation of theBrnoPřerovrailway line, specifically the section fromNezamyslice to Kojetín, including the construction of a traction power station in Nezamyslice.Further funds will support the installation of the ETCS (European train Control System) on the adjacent KojetínPřerov section, and a grant has also been awarded for timetable information systems in cooperation with international partners.A grant of CZK 6.18 billion (EUR 251 million) has been awarded for the already-commenced modernisation of the 10-km section between Nezamyslice and Kojetín. As with other parts of the BrnoPřerov line, this section will gain a second track and the line speed will increase to 200 kmh. This will be made possible by planned track realignments, which will include the construction of the 744-metre-long Němčice Tunnel and extensive bridge structures. Passengers will benefit from two new barrier-free stations: in Měrovice nad Hanou and Němčice nad Hanou. The line will also be equipped with state-of-the-art ETCS safety systems. All level crossings in the section will be replaced with grade-separated crossings.This section will also undergo traction power conversion to an alternating current system. For this reason, nearly CZK 1.1 billion (EUR 44.7 million) of the grant is allocated for the standalone construction of the Nezamyslice traction power station, which will facilitate the change in power supply.Completion of both construction projects is scheduled for 2028, by which time the follow-up modernisation of the KojetínPřerov section should also be completed. Správa železnic has received funding for the installation of the unified European ETCS system on this section as well.Finally, Správa železnic, in collaboration with international partners, has successfully secured funding for the development of information systems aimed at harmonising timetable data across Europe, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of rail transport.CEF funding plays a major support for Czech rail projects with Správa železnic being receiving grants totalling CZK 40.5 billion (EUR 1.65 billion).Share on:RECOMMENDED EVENT:
