PLK to launch EUR 328 million tendersJuly 14, 2025Polish State Railways (PLK) has successfully secured EU funding for the development of rail infrastructure and plans to launch tenders worth PLN 1.4 billion (EUR 328 million) in the fourth quarter of 2025.In the latest round of the Urban Railway competition, launched under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, and Environment Programme 20212027 (FEnIKS), half of the selected projects are investments planned by Polskie Linie Kolejowe.Thanks to support from the FEnIKS programme, strategic Railway investments will be carried out in several regions across Poland. Each project addresses local transport needs, while collectively contributing to improved quality and accessibility of the national rail network.InWrocław, a comprehensive modernisation is planned for the section between Wrocław Psie Pole and Wrocław Sołtysowice, part ofLine No. 143. The works will include upgrades to the tracks, engineering structures, platforms (at Wrocław Psie Pole), and traffic control systems. The aim is to improve capacity and enable smoother train operationsboth passenger and freightwithin the Wrocław Railway hub. The tender is expected to be announced in Q4 2025, with the project valued at over PLN 190 million (EUR 44.6 million).InSilesia, PLK will revitalise the section betweenTychy and Bieruń Stary on Line No. 179, restoring full functionality and increasing train speeds to up to 120 kmh. The modernisation will also include the construction of new stops and the reconstruction of level crossings. These upgrades will offer residents faster and more convenient rail connections, playing a key role in the development of public transport in the Silesian Voivodeship. The tender is planned for the end of 2025, with the total project value exceeding PLN 522 million (EUR 122.6 million).In Toruń, rail infrastructure improvements will be delivered under theBiT City II project. The section between Toruń Główny and Toruń Wschodni will undergo significant modernisation, including upgrades to the tracks, platforms, and the historic Ernest Malinowski Bridge (built in 1873), which will also gain a new pedestrian and cycle path. Toruń Miasto and Toruń Wschodni stations will be rebuilt and made accessible for people with reduced mobility. This joint investment by PLK, PKP, and the City of Toruń will greatly enhance the role of rail within the citys public transport system and improve accessibility for residents. The tender is due in Q4 2025, with an estimated value of over PLN 685 million (EUR 161 million).The FEnIKS Programme, which continues the former Infrastructure and Environment Programme, has a budget of more than PLN 113 billion (EUR 26.5 billion), of which over PLN 91 billion (EUR 21.4 billion) is funded by the European Union. The programme supports the development of a sustainable economy through investments in transport infrastructure, energy, the environment, and climate action.Polskie Linie Kolejowe is one of the programmes key beneficiaries in the transport sector.
